In high school basketball last night, heard on Gold 105.5, the Boys Town Cowboys defeated the Archbishop Bergan Knights, 75-50. The Cowboys had three players score in double figures, led by Devon Watts with 17, Shannon Moon with 16 and David Austin with 12.
The Knights were led in scoring by Jake Jensen with 15 points and Cole Conrad with 11. Boys Town is 16-1 and will host Ralston tomorrow. Bergan is 14-6 and plays Omaha Christian Academy tonight at 7:45, from the College of St. Mary. The game will be broadcast on Gold 105.5.
In other area boys’ games, Council Bluffs St. Albert beat Mount Michael 53-39. In the East Central Nebraska Conference Tournament consolations, Palmyra beat Yutan 60-56. In the semifinals, Elmwood-Murdock beat Malcolm 44-33 and Johnson County Central beat Louisville 67-28.
In area girls’ action, Ashland-Greenwood beat Blair 35-16. In the Cornhusker Conference Tournament Consolations, Humphrey St. Francis beat Fullerton 48-36. Newman Grove beat Clarkson 49-23. In the semifinals, Humphrey beat Howells, 52-51 in overtime and Lindsay Holy Family beat Dodge 50-33. In the East Husker Conference Tournament consolations, Lyons-Decatur Northeast beat Logan View, 27-25. Stanton beat Oakland-Craig 36-31. West Point-Beemer defeated Tekamah-Herman 36-35. In the semifinals, North Bend Central beat Wisner-Pilger 36-29 and Pender beat Scribner-Snyder 53-19. In the Mid-State Conference Tournament semifinals, Boone Central beat Wayne 44-41. Pierce beat Norfolk Catholic 36-20. In the consolations West Point Guardian Angels beat Madison 59-20 and Hartington Cedar Catholic beat O’Neill 40-36 in overtime.
Due to the incoming weather, the Fremont Tiger swim team will compete a day early. They will swim today at the Elkhorn Invitational at Common Ground in Elkhorn, beginning at 12:30. The Fremont High girls and boys basketball teams play at Norfolk tonight. The girls play at 5:45 with the boys at 7:30. Both games will be broadcast on AM 1340 KHUB.
Saturday, the Fremont High wrestling team will compete at the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament at Lincoln High. Matches begin at 9:30am. The Fremont High girls and boys basketball teams host the North Platte Bulldogs, tomorrow. The girls’ game is at 5:15 with the boys’ game at 7:00. Both games will be broadcast on Gold 105.5. Tomorrow, the Archbishop Bergan wrestling team will host the Bergan Duals. Matches begin at 10am. The Bergan girls’ basketball team will host Fort Calhoun tomorrow night at 7:45. The game will be broadcast on AM 1340 KHUB. Tomorrow, the Midland University track and field teams will compete at the Dordt College Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Midland men’s wrestling team will compete at the Briar Cliff Open, in Sioux City, Iowa, beginning at 9am. The Midland women and men’s basketball teams will host Dakota Wesleyan, tomorrow, at the Midland Event Center. The women’s game is at 2pm, with the men’s game at 4pm. Both games will be broadcast on AM 1340 KHUB.

Bo Spencer had a team-high 24 points, as Nebraska trimmed a 15-point halftime deficit to one, but the Huskers were unable to complete the comeback, falling 84-74 to Northwestern Thursday evening.
Spencer led three Huskers in double figures, as he scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half, as Nebraska pulled to within 54-53 with 10:38 left, but could not slow down Northwestern’s shooting from long range at key points of the night.
The Huskers return to action on Sunday afternoon, as they host Minnesota at Noon. The game will be broadcast on Gold 105.5, with the Husker Sports Network.
No. 16 Nebraska produced one of the most thrilling women’s basketball victories in school history with a 93-89 win over No. 15 Purdue at Mackey Arena on Thursday night.
With the first road triple-overtime win in school history, the Huskers pulled into a tie for first place with the Boilermakers at 8-2 in the Big Ten, while improving to 19-3 overall. Purdue slipped to 18-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference with its second straight loss.
The Huskers will take the weekend off from competition to prepare for their upcoming home game with Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 9. Tip-off between Nebraska and the Wolverines at the Devaney Center is set for 7:05 p.m.
The No. 29 Nebraska women’s tennis team (1-1) will return to Lincoln this weekend, hosting the No. 75 Wyoming Cowgirls (1-1) and the Eastern Michigan Eagles (3-3) in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Huskers will face the Cowgirls at 11 a.m. before taking on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Wyoming and Eastern Michigan will square off against each other on Friday at 5 p.m.
Creighton outrebounded Wichita State by 25 and knocked off the first-place Shockers 61-59 at D.J. Sokol Arena Thursday night. Sophomore Carli Tritz led the Bluejays with 15 points and freshman Taylor Johnson added 12 points off the bench, including the final four points of the game for the Bluejays in handing Wichita State its 11th straight loss in Omaha.

The win moves Creighton to 12-9 on the season and 6-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while dropping the Shockers to 14-7 overall and 8-2 in league action.
The Bluejays return to the court on Saturday when they play host to preseason MVC favorite Missouri State (14-6, 7-3 MVC) at 4:05 pm.
The UNO men’s basketball team captured its second win in as many days on Thursday night, defeating Avila 83-81 at Mabee Fieldhouse. With the victory, the Mavericks improve to 9-15 on the year.

Senior guard Mitch Albers paced Nebraska Omaha with a career-high 31 points and eight rebounds, shooting 11-for-15 from the field. Freshman guard CJ Carter chipped in 17 points on a trio of 3-pointers with six rebounds, three assists and three steals, and sophomore guard Caleb Steffensmeier added a career-best 15 points with seven assists and a pair of blocks. Junior forward Alex Welhouse also finished with double-figure scoring, totaling 13 points for the night.
UNO returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, hostng Doane College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
